Tech stack & purpose

Work Sans is a grotesque sans-serif typeface family created by Wei Huang and funded by Google for distribution through Google Fonts. The project began in June 2014 and was first released in July 2015, with significant updates between 2018–2020 that added italic variants, variable font files, and expanded language support including Vietnamese and numerous other languages through the Google Latin Expert glyph set. The typeface comprises nine weights optimized for on-screen text at medium sizes (14px–48px) while remaining suitable for print, and is built using modern font development tools including FontBakery for quality assurance and GitHub Actions for automated builds.
