Tech stack & purpose

GNU FriBidi is a free software library that implements the Unicode Bidirectional Algorithm, enabling proper support for right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew in free software applications. The library is written in C, uses UTF-32 Unicode encoding internally, and has no external dependencies beyond the GNU Build System or meson for compilation. It is already integrated into widely-used projects including GTK+, GNOME, Pango, AbiWord, and VLC, and is maintained by Dov Grobgeld with substantial contributions from Behdad Esfahbod.
