Tech stack & purpose

Claws Mail is an open-source email and news client that supports multiple mail protocols including POP3, IMAP4, SMTP, and NNTP, along with standards for secure connections, authentication, and message formatting. The project provides a modular architecture with plugins for extended functionality, such as HTML mail viewing via the Dillo browser engine, spam filtering through SpamAssassin, avatar display from Libravatar, and Python scripting capabilities. The codebase is written in C and includes integration tools for other desktop environments, bash completion support, and conversion utilities for migrating data from other mail clients like Thunderbird, Kmail, and Outlook.
