Tech stack & purpose

Bikeshed is a preprocessor for specification documents that converts source files into complete specs with boilerplate, bibliographies, indexes, and other generated content. It is used by CSS and W3C working groups, WHATWG, the C++ standards committee, and others. The tool provides features including automatic linking of terms to definitions, automatic ID generation, textual shortcuts for common patterns, boilerplate generation, Bikeshed-flavored Markdown support, IDL processing, and railroad diagram generation. Bikeshed is written in Python, processes `.bs` source files into HTML output, and can be run locally or accessed online through spec-generator.
