The Automated Cryptographic Validation Protocol (ACVP) is a protocol developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to support modernized validation testing of cryptographic algorithms for the NIST Cryptographic Algorithm Validation Program (CAVP) and Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP). The project addresses the challenge of validating an expanding number of increasingly complex cryptographic algorithms by enabling standardized, accelerated test data generation and result reporting rather than relying on manual validation processes. The repository contains the ACVP protocol specification documents written in AsciiDoc format and compiled using Metanorma, a library for writing standards that generates output in multiple formats including IETF RFC format, alongside specifications for a comprehensive range of NIST-approved cryptographic algorithms including symmetric ciphers, hash functions, digital signatures, and key derivation functions.
