Tech stack & purpose

The Unicode Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR) is a comprehensive collection of locale-specific data maintained by Unicode. The repository contains XML data files organized across numerous directories covering areas such as character annotations and text-to-speech names, locale identifiers and language tags (BCP 47), character casing and collation rules, date and time formatting, number formatting via rule-based number format (RBNF), text segmentation, territory subdivisions, and character transforms. The project also includes extensive test data for datetime formatting, message formatting, person name formats, grapheme cluster segmentation, unit conversions, and other locale-related operations, all governed by the LDML (Locale Data Markup Language) specification.
