Tech stack & purpose

The Node.js Release Working Group manages the release and support process for Node.js, defining the release methodology, content, and schedule while overseeing testing and maintenance of LTS (Long Term Support) and Current release branches. The group is organized into three specialized teams: the Releasers team, which builds and signs releases with privileged CI access; the Backporters team, which manages cherry-picking changes to release streams; and the CITGM (Canary in the Gold Mine) team, which maintains sanity checks for releases. Node.js follows a predictable release cycle where new major versions branch from the main development line every six months, with even-numbered versions released in April entering LTS status for 12 months of active support followed by 18 months of maintenance, while odd-numbered versions released in October do not receive LTS support.
